LECBA Board Meeting

Monday, September 13, 2010

The meeting was called to order by President Rick Unger at 6:30 PM at The Pond.

Board members present: Jerry Abele, Steve Connor, Ron Eickholt, Mel Fenger, Jeff Goehring, Mike Matta, Chris Moore, Paul Pacholski, JT, Rick Unger, Barry Witt, Bob Witt, Dave Whitt

Guests present: Sandee Abele, Peggy VanVleet

Motion made by Dave Whitt to accept August minutes. Seconded by Jerry Abele. Passed by the Board.

No Treasurer’s Report.

President Report:

Dean Cook case in Sandusky and Ottawa Counties update. One of the cases has been thrown out of court and is being appealed. More information next month.

The LECBA has signed on to suing the EPA for Open Lake Dumping. President Unger testified. By October 4, something should be heard from the courts.

Information on this years hatch is not complete yet. Ontario is not done. No position until the numbers are in.

Elections: All current officers have agreed to run again.

If you wish to challenge for any of the following positions: President, Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, Treasurer, or Business Member you have until October 11, 2010 to submit a request to President Unger. Failure to have any challenges will result in no election and all will retain their current position.

Membership applications are still coming in. Suggestion to make personal phone calls to those members that have not renewed.

John Kasik (currently running for Governor) met with President Unger and several others at The Pond and discussed a variety of issues. The LECBA cannot endorse any candidate according to the by-laws.

Asian carp: President Obama has appointed a carp czar: John Goss

President Unger and Mike Matta attended a meeting on the issue. The carps will be on display at the Lake Erie Visitor’s Center so guests can observe them.

President Unger responded to a communication from Tony Novak stating that the LECBA will continue to follow the science pertaining to closing the spring fishing season and asked that he not speak on behalf of him.

Thank you to Jerry Abele and Bob Witt for their organization and participation of the Veteran’s fishing days. The veteran’s had a great time.

President Unger spoke with the president of the North Coast Charter Boat Association and they are in full support of issues that the LECBA takes on.

Bob Witt will represent the LECBA at meeting in Toledo to discuss the algae in Lake Erie.

President Unger will be purchasing a scanner to keep LECBA correspondences on record.

Jeff Goehring discussed the issue of seeing lots of small walleye when catching minnows. More than normal and lots of schools of them.

Next meeting will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Island House.
