Captain Of The Year

The meeting was called to order by President Rick Unger at 6:15 PM at the Island House Restaurant.

Members present: Jerry Abele, Steve Connor, Ron Eickholt, Jeff Goehring, Don Lowther, Mike Matta, Chris Moore, Paul Pacholski, John Tucholski, Rick Unger, Barry Witt, Bob Witt, Dave Whitt

Motion made by Mike Matta to approve February minutes. Seconded by Jerry Abele. Passed by the Board.

Treasurer’s Report given by Don Lowther. Motion to approve report by Steve Connor. Seconded by Jerry Abele. Passed by the Board.

LECBA needs more Business members. Barry Witt and Jeff Goehring volunteered to start contacting businesses to get them involved with the organization. Suggestion made to send a cover letter and application to the businesses, but still contact them by phone as well.

Paul Pacholski reported on his recent trip to Washington DC. Paul and President Unger spoke with many influential people about the Asian Carp issue as well as the open lake dumping issue. They received lots of positive feed back and stressed the importance of the Lake and the amount of jobs and income it brings in.

President Unger spoke with the representative from LaFarge on stopping the open lake dumping. They have a good plan, but funding is currently an issue.

Discussion about coming up with a plan to reinforce what happened in Washington DC. Should we start calling people to push our stance on current issues.

Captain’s Conference was well attended again this year. Paul Pacholski received his Captain of the Year Award. Jim Wray discussed border crossing issues: If you cross the border, don’t touch land, don’t call. Please cooperate with the Border Patrol. They have every right to stop you. Call if you see anything suspicious.

Canadian Licenses:

President Unger is still working on selling the licenses here on the US side. Several people have expressed interest: Hi-Way Bait, A -n- J, Mark Cahlik.

Same day one day licenses will be available online in 2011.

Any new members between now and July will be considered in good standing through July 2011. Applications for membership should be sent to all captains on the lake this July.

President Unger attended the North Coast Charter Boat Association Reverse Raffle last Friday.

Ron Eickholt discussed new license registration and the health issues some captains are coming in contact with. You can pre-renew for your license. Get all your info in early to delay the issuance of your license.

Great Lakes Fisheries Committee Meeting March 25 - 26 in Windsor. Open House on Thursday evening and the TAC should be announced by noon on Friday. Two rooms have been reserved if anyone is interested in attending.

Next meeting will be held Monday, April 12, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Island House Restaurant.
