LECBA Board Meeting Meeting was held at the Island House Restaurant.President Rick Unger called the meeting to order at 6:25 PM. Members present: Jerry Abele, Ron Eickholt, Charlie Eulitt, Jeff Goehring, Don Lowther, Mike Matta, Chris Moore, Pete Scheid, Barry Witt, Bob Witt, Dan Welsh, Rick Unger Guests present: Mel Fenger, Bob Tempero, Tony Bernard, Jim Maxim, Eric Gahn, and Theresa Behrends Presentation by Bob Tempero of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The 20th Annual MS Walleye Fishing Tournament will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. There will be a $300 stipend for the day. The MS Society is hoping to book 30 boats for the event.  There will be a Captain’s meeting/BBQ at 6:00 PM the night before the tournament. Breakfast and sack lunches will be provided the day of the tournament.  If you would like to participate/donate please contact Tony at 1-800-667-7131. Treasurer’s Report:Detailed report given by Don Lowther.Motion to approve the report by Charlie Eulitt, and seconded by Ron Eickholt. President’s Report:Brief discussion concerning the TWIC card.  President Unger will have an answer by the Captain’s Conference on whether or not it will be needed this season. President Unger put a call in to Marcy Kapture’s office requesting money for the organization.  It’s a long shot, but worth a try. President Unger discussed hiring Kelly Collins as a subcontractor to the organization.  She would be responsible for taking minutes at meetings, updating the database, mailings, correlate with Sandee Abele on the Drug Program.  She would receive $150 a month.  Board was asked to “sit on it” for a month and vote at the next meeting. Cleveland Sports Show March 18 – 22, 2009            LECBA will again have a booth at the show.  This was an event that Bob Collins used to take care of.  People are needed to work the booth.  Jeff Goehring volunteered to oversee the show.  He will transport the booth to and from the show and schedule captains to work.  Captains have been asked not to book personal trips while working the booth.  Please remember that the booth is to promote the LECBA as a group. Captain’s Conference is Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the BGSU Firelands Campus in Huron, OH. Great Lakes Fishing Commission is March 23/24 in Ann Arbor, MI.  President has a room if you would like to attend.  Mike Matta will also be attending driving back and forth each day if you are interested. President Unger will be attending a Sportsman Meeting in Amish Country On Saturday, February 28. 2009.WHTI – Western Hemisphere Travel InitiativePresident Unger is still working on this issue about traveling to Canada.  He should have firm answer by the end of February/first of March. President Unger has been speaking with a licensing agency in Canada.  By January 2010, same day one day fishing licenses should be available for purchase online. Sportsman Card (Canadian License) will run about $78.  Call 1-800-667-1940 LECBA Website update:            President Unger and Bob Witt are still working on this issue.  A new user-friendly website will be built.  Discussion about new members receiving a pass code to input their information on the site.  Bob will talk with the web designer on prices.  Motion made by Charlie Eulitt to spend an initial $1500 to get it up and running.  If it runs more, Bob will contact Rick who will then call Board members for a consensus to continue with the project.  Motion seconded by Ron Eickholt. Governor’s Day: Monday, July 13, 2009            Mike Matta and Pete Scheid will co-chair this event. Same format as last year.  There will be multiple fish cleaners. There are looking for 18 boats.  There is $110 stipend for the day, and paid LECBA membership.  If interested, please contact Mike or Pete. Captain of the Year was Jerry Abele.  Nominees for Captain of the Year do not have to be a board member.  Mike Matta and Ron Eickholt will review and clarify the criteria for nominating a captain. By-law’s Committee Report by Ron Eickholt.  Big issue to be discussed at the next meeting concerning the three meeting rule. Jerry Abele addressed the issue of sauger.  Rick will discuss it with Roger Knight to see where things stand.  Jerry would like to find a way to provide money for the issue through private donations or grants if the State cannot. Next meeting will be held at the Island House Restaurant on Monday, March 9, 2009. Motion to adjourn at 8:50 PM by Charlie Eulitt, seconded by Dan Welsh.
